Today we got our two new rabbits. Those of you who have read other posts will know that we went onto the website rabbitrehome in order to get the two rabbits.

rabbits

We went to collect them this evening with our carry case that we had bought from the local pet store. When we arrived it turns out that the lady that we got them off was doing a Animals Welfare course at college and therefore she was a bit of an animal adoption expert in the area. The rabbits were waiting for us in a kitten enclosure looking ever so cute. We put them into the carry case and set off.

During the journey both George and Jeremy were very well behaved and there were no weeing incidents to report. We pulled up on the drive and them got them into the garage. We set up their hutch and rabbit run (they like to exercise) and then they were happy as Larry.

Both myself and wife just want to say well done to the lady which they are aquired off. She spent time and effort bringing these rabbits up so that both they and we can enjoy their lives. We look forward to many happy moments. Welcome to George and Jeremy.

I was reading a story on the BBC News website the other day about copy protection on DVDs. The article was all about the new HD DVDs and the fact that the copy protection that was being used on them had already been breached by a hacker almost as soon as it was introduced. The article was claimed that it was not good enough.

The way that I see it is that it doesn’t matter what copy protection is put onto DVDs and even CDs maybe in the future, someone, somewhere will break that protection. Therefore what is the point?

As everybody know’s it is illegal to copy and DVD or CD to give to someone else. That said how many have you copied for others? I bet the answer is more than the number of fingers and toes you have! My point is that it is an impossible industry to regulate therefore they need to take another approach.

They say that music companies and bands are loosing millions because of the illegal distribution of material, therefore why don’t they drop the prices of all digital media. If it was competitive to buy a brand new DVD from the shop then people wouldn’t need to buy pirate copies. They wouldn’t even need to be cheaper. If a pirate copy was £3 and a brand new genuine copy was £5 I would certainly never consider the pirate version.

The other idea is to increase the price of the hardware that is used to copy DVDs and CDs e.g. CDRW and DVDRW drives. This would mean that they are harder to get hold of. Many blame it on the fact that the Internet is littered with free software that enables your to rip through copy protection, however all of this software is useless without a DVD burner. Therefore increase the price of the burners and let people download the software. At the moment most computers come as standard with a DVD burner but if you increased the price of a machine that had a burner then less people would buy them. Less buying burners would surely mean less dodgy copies of digital media out there.

The invention of digital music and video has changed the way that the movie and music industry has worked. Therefore we need to change the way that the copyright industry works in order to get up with the technological advances.

pc world storeI have read on the news today that it is going to be bye bye for one of the computing worlds revolutionary pieces of hardware. What could this be you might be asking? The CPU, the CRT monitor - no. PC World have decided that it is time to say bye bye to the beloved floppy disc.

When you buy a new computer these days it is highly unlikely that the machine will come with a floppy disc drive installed. I bought a dell PC 2 years ago now and that didn’t have one installed. They have been taken over by the invention oftwo things. The first of course is the CD ROM and more recently (well not that recent of course!) the CDRW which allows discs to be used more than once. These were a breakthrough over floppy discs as they allowed more storage space on one disc and they were more hard wearing than the not so trusty floppy disc. The second is the USB memory stick. These really have revolutionised portalable storage in the computer industry. I first got one back in 2003. A 256mb drive for around £40. Now I have just bought a 1gb drive for a tenner.

No wonder PC World have decided that the time has come to stop selling floppy discs. When you can purchase portable storage of upto 4gb then who is ever going to buy a floppy disc. They say that once their stock is run out then that is that. Well if this is the case then maybe they will always have some. When was the last time you bought a floppy disc?

Ian the rabbitAfter the sudden death of Toby my wife and I have decided that we would like another rabbit. Therefore we got on the rabbit re-home website and found a lovely pair of rabbits called . They are 7 months old and they are coming from not so far away.

Their story is that they were born in August to a mother who was found wandering around Preston docks. The couple that we are getting the two off rescued the wandering rabbit only to find out that within a week of her coming home she had given birth to seven baby rabbits. They think this is why she was ‘dumped’.GusAnyway all of the other seven babies have since found new homes and there are just these two lovely animals left. Therefore we phoned up this afternoon and my wife is going to collect them tomorrow afternoon.

We had to rush out this afternoon to by a pet carrier so that we could safely transfer the rabbits back to our house. They will live in the garage/garden in a hutch with a rabbit run. We are both looking forward to getting them tomorrow.

With the sudden death of the much loved Toby me and my wife are looking to get another rabbit(s). We both thought there must be lots of rabbits that need rehoming due to various circumstances and therefore we thought that we could make a good home for a pair of rabbits.

With this in mind, I googled rehoming rabbits and google promptly came up with rabbitrehome.org.uk which is a site that concerns itself with - suprisingly enough! - rehoming rabbits. I quickly entered the required search terms and it came up with a pairs of rabbits that were available in our area. Izzles and JayJay came up as wanting a rehome. Two rabbits (male and female) that were already bonded with each other and they are both less than a year old.

The site then has enquiry details so that you can email the person that currently has the rabbits and therefore you can find out about whether or not they and you would be suitable for there needs. I have yet to receive the reply. When I do I will report back.

With the adoption in mind I started looking at hutches as I thought that two rabbits would need to ‘houses’? Looking on ebay there are hundreds of rabbit hutches and some really cool two storey homes. I think that we will be purchasing one of these fantastic rabbit homes should a future adoption take place.

It is with sad news that I write this article of the blog. On returning home from work this evening it was to find Toby (my rabbit) dead on the patio. He seems as though he passed away peacefully either during the day or some time that night. He looked ever so peaceful just lead there on the patio.

Toby has been a fantastic pet. He was my first rabbit (my wife has had a rabbit before). He was about 2 years old when he passed away today which I think is quite young for a rabbit. He filled the whole family with joy when he was bundling around the garden as his usual self. The memories that I remember of Toby is him wandering around the garden when we were building the patio, lying in any trench that we had dug and wondering what on earth was going on. He was so investigative during this time, which was lovely to see.

It was a joy to have him living with us for the last two years. I just hoped that he enjoyed it too. From all your family Tobes, do rest in peace. Love Mark and Helen. xx
